Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 29: Special Judge NIA Subash C Gupta has granted 15 days police remand of Shakir Bashir Magray to NIA. Shakir is alleged to be associated with fidayeen bomber who carried out an attack on CRPF convoy in which 40 CRPF personnel attained martyrdom on February 14, 2019.
CIO-Rakesh Balwal, Superintendent of Police, NIA had moved an application seeking police custody of Shakir for 15 days, on the grounds. The accused was arrested at Srinagar. And immediately thereafter, he was examined from the Medical Officer PHC Air Port, Jammu. The NIA officer said that his custodial interrogation is needed for taking the investigation of the case to its logical conclusion.
The Special Judge NIA on perusal and consideration of the relevant entries of the CD file observed that the accused was arrested for unearthing his role in the criminal conspiracy as involved, in the matter. Keeping in view the facts and the circumstances of the case, gravity and heinousness of the crime as involved in the present matter, submissions made by the CIO and the stage of the investigation of the case, the court is of the considered view that the custodial interrogation of the accused is imperative to facilitate the ongoing investigation & to take it to logical conclusion.
Accordingly, the court was satisfied that the prayer made by the NIA seems genuine and justified. Hence, the application made by CIO NIA in the matter for remand was allowed and the accused was remanded to police custody for 15 days.
