Early Times Report

Mendhar, Feb 29: The dilapidated school building located in the far off hamlet of Thera in Mendhar is mocking at the government claims about ensuring better education in government run- schools.
Established in 1916, this 104- year old Govt Primary School was upgraded to Middle standard in 2005. Out of the total 5 rooms, 3 have been declared as unsafe by the government. The roll in the school is witnessing a dip as people do not want to send their children in an unsafe school.
Officials of the school told the Early times that the building was completely in a real bad shape and that there are only two rooms with one serving as an office and another turned into a joint class room where the students of 1st class to 8th class are bundled.
Furthermore, there is no drinking water facility available in the school. In order to fetch water, kids have to walk for miles together.
Locals in the area have urged upon the administration to address the issue on priority and provide relief to the perturbed kids and their parents. SDM Mendhar, Dr Sahil Jandial when contacted said that the matter has come tohis notice and that he has discussed it with the Deputy CEO and asked for a report. “The building will be repaired so that the students do not face problems any further,” assured Dr Sahil.
