Jammu, Feb 29: Model Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kot-Bhalwal, Jammu, organized a One-day seminar on “Innovative Materials and Methods in Civil Engineering” (IMMCE – 2020) on 29th February 2020. Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Head Civil Engineering, Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion and the keynote speaker, while Dr. Rajesh Pathak, Associate Professor, Civil Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET presided over the function. Other speakers during the seminar included Dr. Tanuj Chopra, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Tarun Gupta, AE, Incharge PMGSY, Govt. of J&K and Dr. Divya Gupta, Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu. Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director MIET welcomed the dignitaries and encouraged the students to undertake civil engineering projects to solve problems in the J&K context. Dr. Sanjeev Gupta spoke on the civil engineering project life-cycle including requirements analysis, planning, design, resource allocation, manpower planning and execution. He further spoke about environmental sustainability of civil structures. Dr. Rajesh Pathak spoke about the waste materials used in the soil sub-grade of the pavement section. He proposed various types of waste materials that can be used to improve the soil sub grade properties to achieve higher reliability at lower cost. Dr. Tarun Chopra spoke at length about energy efficient structures using innovative materials such as electricity-generating glass and provided real-world examples of such innovative structures. Er. Tarun Gupta laid emphasis on the use of Geotextile in the flexible pavement and its cost analysis. Dr. Divya Gupta, Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu, discussed on variable Irrigation Rate and latest research on irrigation methods and implementation. |
