WHERE IS SWACHH BHARAT?? | | | Harmeet Singh
Our Hon'ble Prime Minister Started a Swachh Bharat Mission a nationwide campaign to clean up streets roads and infrastructure of cities, towns, rural areas. On regular basis funds have been allocated to Swachh Bharat Mission and concerning departments. But as a concern citizen of this country I have few questions like Is Swachh Bharat really possible? Does it made any impact on the ground level? Is it being followed with proper methods? The reason why I am asking these questions is that in reality our local civil bodies they are not following any guidelines to manage municipal Solid Waste. Let me begin with highlighting the case of Nowshera. The whole garbage of Nowshera city is being collected by concerned bodies and then it is thrown just near the bank of Manovar River which directly contaminates water quality of River. Also the disposal site is near to the main road which is connecting National Highway to Nowshera City. So the movement of peoples and vehicles is in large numbers. During rainfall the leachate which is coming out of the garbage also leads to the contamination of water. My reason for concern is getting more serious when I understand that this River is the only Source of water for the Nowshera peoples and nearby villages. The poor management of Municipal solid waste leads to the Contamination of environment whether it is air, water and soil. All are being polluted because of the carelessness and negligence of Administration of Nowshera. Many poisonous gases are continuously coming out of the disposal site which is harmful for the environment. It's not only about the environment but also about the health of the people's especially small children's and senior citizens. Their health is at risk because they are consuming contaminated water thanks to the Administration of Nowshera. Recently I interacted with one of the doctor of Nowshera Sub District Hospital. He said every day he is getting 15-20 cases of water borne disease. As per the Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, the disposal site should be 100m away from any water bodies like rivers, ponds and lakes. So it is clear cut violation of MSW rules 2016. Our Prime Minister is working so hard for the Swachh Bharat Mission. From every stage he is promoting Swachh Bharat but the lower administration has failed to do so. Therefore I would like to request the Our Prime Minister to take some mandatory actions to save the Manovar River and also the Health of the Nowshera peoples. |
