Early times report

Udhampur, Mar 1: The old pond at Nagrota here is almost in dying condition. The pond is rain-fed and at present is a jungle of bushes and other wild growth.
Apart from this, polythene carry bags, dirt and garbage is thrown by the public in this water body. Not only this many non-state labourers use this pond to ease themselves. The pond was once used for bathing and washing purposes and many cattle too consumed its water.
“Bushes and grass around the water body should be cleared weekly,” said a local on the condition of anonymity. He also informed that land mafia does not want that the pond remains as a pond anymore so that they may easily sell it in a clandestine way.
A local resident said that the authorities are unmoved and they should make such a system that maximum of the rain water gets stored in the pond so that water remains in the water body throughout the year.
Another local informed that the complaint has been made to the concerned authority for the repairing of this pond but nothing has been done on the till date. The locals have appealed LG GC Murmu and DC Udhampur Piyush Singla to look into the matter and protect as well as maintained the pond.
