BSNL Broadband services restored in Kashmir, 7 months after scraping of Article 370 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, MAR 5: In a much relief, the government-run cellular company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Thursday restored the broadband internet services in the Valley after remaining suspended for over 7 months time. The restoration of broadband internet services comes a day the government lifted the ban on social media applications here after seven-months. However, the high speed mobile data services as per the government will remain barred till March 17. While as on January 26, the administration restored 2G internet services in the Valley after the Supreme Court’s order to review all curbs while terming internet as a ‘fundamental right’. The J&K administration are currently reviewing the internet ban on a regular basis after the SC ordered to do so. Earlier there were speculations that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has hired some engineers from several parts of India to create a fire wall so that social networking sites are not accessed through the broadband. However, with the restoration of broadband services all the speculations came to an end. Meanwhile a senior official in Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited said, “The broadband internet service has been restored across the Valley with authorities deciding not to charge consumers for the suspended period. “The charges for the suspension period to the consumers have been waived off and the services have been restored.” |
