Babus go in hush-up mode as multi-crore ghotala surfaces in SICOP! | Aggrieved seek PMO, LG Murmu’s intervention; Demand CBI probe | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 5: In a major “scam” that may land several officials in jail if a high level probe is ordered, the Jammu and Kashmir Small Scale Industries Development Corporation or SICOP had gone for “shady” lease out of a prized chunk of industrial land worth crores of rupees in Zainakote area of Srinagar when Kashmir was under clampdown last year. Official sources said in October 2019, when Kashmir was witnessing clampdown and internet connectivity was not available, the SICOP had gone for allotment of land measuring around 50 kanals at the Industrial Estate Zainakote. Official records reveal that on October 12, 2019, the SICOP had sought online applications vide order no SICOP/MD/LA/383. Sources said the online applications were invited amid “turmoil and no internet connectivity deliberately to make prospective business players stay away from the deal and to benefit a influential lobby.” Sources said some of the influential persons in league with some senior officials even in SICOP and the Civil Secretariat had gone for a “nazrana deal that would benefit both the groups in the allotment of the land.” Sources said given the uncertainty in Kashmir that time, those behind the plan had thought that the “hush hush allotment of prized land would go unnoticed.” But as the situation in Kashmir improved and life returned to normal, the prospective players and activists started raising questions over the deal having been done at the odd hour to benefit some influential. Sources said the land had almost been allotted to the “influential lobby.” Sources said the “aggrieved” parties had told the concerned officials that the matter would be brought to the notice of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Raj Bhawan. Sources said apprehending trouble, the officials who were involved in the deal, recently called a “secret meeting.” “It was unanimously resolved to end the matter by canceling the orders passed in October last year or else many of the officials would in trouble for the fraudulent deal,” said a source privy to the development. Sources said the officials at once decided to cancel the previous order “only a bid to prevent any inquiry into the ghotala.” Official documents reveal that the SICOP has come up with a notification that the order dated October 2019 has been revoked due to “non availability of internet” and that fresh dates to seek applications would be “notified in due course of time.” A senior official in the SICOP while trying to downplay the matter, said there was “no hanky panky” and that the previous order has been revoked and thus no more discussion should be held over it. But people have appealed the Prime Minister’s Office and the Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to personally look into the matter. “Why is the order being suddenly cancelled after four months? Only a high level probe through CBI can bring the truth to fore. In a country where our Prime Minister Modi is known for honesty and integrity, the corrupt babus should be exposed and given exemplary punishment,” the complainants said. |
