JKTJAC expresses concern over selective implementation of impact training course

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 7: Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Joint Action Committee (JKTJAC) while taking a strong note of Integrated Multidisciplinary Professional Advancement Course for teachers (IMPACT), has termed it a discriminatory move as the department is going to impart it to only grade ll and grade llI teachers, citing the reason that they are untrained, as an official document of department reads. But the fact is that almost 99 percent of them are trained teachers holding the degrees of B.Ed and M. Ed.
JKTJAC General Secretary Saleem Sagar said, "the fact remains that authorities have been always hell-bent to humiliate this hardworking cadre of teachers (Teacher grade ll and Teacher grade lll) in one way or the other, despite their remarkable performances in rural areas. Saleem Sagar said, "According to an official document, Directorate of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan had approached the Director NCERT with the demand that "35000 grade ll and III teachers in Jammu and Kashmir are untrained who need to go through a training course to upgrade their teaching skills", which is baseless and breach in the trust on our Directorate". If the teachers despite holding the degrees like D.Ed., B.Ed, or M.Ed are termed as untrained then who according them is a trained teacher. He said, "this cadre has gone through dozens of training courses in addition to their professional degrees".
"Training the teachers is an appreciable step, not a curse, but imparting trainings at the cost of defaming a single cadre of teachers by labelling them falsely untrained is unacceptable", he added. Sagar said," Government has time and again played a double standard with the Rehbar-e-Taleem cadre, on one hand they are barred from any transfer, on the other hand hundreds of them are being deployed in Higher Secondary Schools as subject specific teachers.
On one hand high claims are being made to take care of acadamics in Jammu and Kashmir on the other hand most of the teachers and kept busy in so called teacher trainings and in IGNOU B.Ed. contact classes during on acadamic session, leaving the students to suffer badly".
Saying that IMPACT would leave a bad impact on the image of thousands of teachers as well as on the future of students, as the academic session has just started after a long gap and department is engaging teachers for trainings, he appealed the authorities to call off this training as early as possible.
