Minor among three killed in shelling from across LoC in Kupwara

KUPWARA, Apr 12: Three civilians including a minor were killed, while as one house and a vehicle got damaged in intense shelling from across the LoC in this north Kashmir district.
A police official told that three civilians, two from Chowkibal and a minor from Tuimna Vilgam village of Kupuwara were killed during LoC shelling late this afternoon. He said that the jurisdiction comes under two different police districts, among the three killed; two come under Kupwara and the other under Handwara police district. “Two civilians including a lady were killed who belong to Chowkibal Kupwara and the minor belongs to Timuna, jurisdiction of Handwara police, the police official said. The police official said that, today afternoon Pakistani rangers resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation creating fear among the local population and targeted the posts of Indian Army.
They said that the initial fire started from Hajitara, Dhani and later in the areas like Manzgam, Malikpora, TCP, Hafrada, Kralpora &Tumina Hachimarg chowkibal.
However sources said that two civilian have died in Chowkibal area and another from Tumina village of block Chowkibal and Thesil Tarathpora Handwara.
Sources identified the deceased as Shameema Begum 37 w/o Gulzar Ahmad Hajam R/o Reddi Chowkibal, Javeed Khan s/o Ghulam Rasool khan R/o Redi Chowkibal and Ziyan Bashir 8 s/o Bashir Ahmad Kataria R/O Katari Mohalla Tuimna Chowkibal.
They said that, the deceased Javid Ahmad Khan was studying in class 10th in Government High School Reddi, while as one child namely Faizan Hamid 13 s/o Abdul Hamid Khan r/o Khan Mohalla Tumina has got injured and was referred to Sub District Hospital Handwara for further treatment, sources informed.
One house and a vehicle has also got damaged in the shelling in Tumina village, adding the children were playing in their lawn, and suddenly there was shelling from other side of Line of Control (LoC) in Chowkibal area.
People got scared after they were told to vacate from their villages, as Indian army retaliated from this side of LoC, said locals.
Scores of people moved to safer places and there remains a threat of cross shelling in the night hours, and from other side people are already scared about the Coronavirus, sources told early times.
Meanwhile Srinagar based Defence Spokesperson; Col Rajesh Kalia told early times that, unprovoked Ceasefire violation initiated by Pakistan in Keran Sector at 5 pm.
Pakistan now targeting civilian population in Kupwara Sector near the Line of Control resulting in killing 3 innocent civilians including one woman and a child, said Kalia.
Pertinently on April 10, the militaries of the two neighboring countries exchanged heavy artillery shells along the LoC in Keran sector of this border district.
