| 1cop martyred, another injured in militant attack at Kishtwar | | | Jammu: A policeman was martyred and another injured after suspected militants attacked at a police party with sharp-edged weapon in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the detail reports are awaited.
“The incident took place at remote Tandar village of Dachan this afternoon, “In the incident, SPO identified as Khurshid Iqbal killed while another Vishal Singh injured & admitted in the hospital,” they said.
The militants fled the scene with two service rifles of the jawans, the official said, adding reinforcements have been rushed to the area to track down the assailants.
Sources said that police have identified militants and lanched search operations.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kishtwar district had been declared free of militancy over a decade ago but since November 2018 has been rocked by several targeted killings of BJP and RSS leaders.
On 1 November 2018, J&K secretary of BJP Anil Parihar and his brother Ajeet were gunned down in the firing by militants in a lane leading to their house in Kishtwar town.
Last year in April militants killed an RSS leader as well as his personal security officer after snatching his weapon in a hospital in Kishtwar town.
On September 28 last year security forces killed three militants, including the mastermind behind these killings, Osama Bin Javed, in the neighbouring Ramban district. |
