Online classes without high speed internet | | | The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to start online classes for the students to compensate the loss they are facing due to the closure of educational institutions after the outbreak of COVID-19. The idea is good but is it applicable without having a high-speed internet at place? Another important factor which the administration needs to bear in mind is that students studying in government schools don't have access to electronic gadgets which can enable them to join the online classes. But the ones who can join these classes need internet speed, which is missing. Officials are claiming that speed has been increased and students can access the online classes, but students are complaining that they are unable to connect. The attempt being made by the Education Department is appreciable, but this should yield results rather than remaining confined to papers only. If administration wants this initiative to become a success it should restore high speed internet at least in the peaceful areas. It's unfortunate that Jammu is suffering due to terrorism being prevalent in Kashmir. There is no justification for blocking highspeed internet in Jammu. People in this region have never supported terrorists and Pakistan and are nationalist. Making them suffer for just being clubbed with Kashmir is unjustified. The Education Department has announced that 2500 tablets loaded with study material and textbooks would be distributed among the students across J&K UT. The question is would these tablets be enough to cater to the large number of 10th and 12th class students across the Union Territory. And on what basis will these tablets be distributed? There are so many unanswered questions which the Education Department has left unanswered. In the given circumstances chances of education sector getting revived look bleak. One can understand that restoring 4G internet services in Kashmir can lead to security related issues but same cannot be said for Jammu region. After the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country all the educational institutions have been closed, but the online classes have already commenced in different States and Union Territories. It's J&K only where the students are suffering due to slow internet speed. Helmsmen need to sit back and think. They should ask themselves why Jammu should suffer due to Kashmir being disturbed. People of Jammu need a respite, especially the students who are preparing for different exams. Starting online classes is a welcome step but these cannot work till connectivity remains disturbed. |
