New Delhi, Apr 21 : Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Central Government to file it’s detailed response by Sunday, while hearing a petition seeking 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir. “Please file your (Centre) reply by Sunday, and the matter to be listed on Monday (April 27),” a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice N V Ramana today said. The matter was heard through video conferencing where lawyers and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted their arguments and submissions in the case. The Attorney General (AG), K K Venugopal, representing the central government, today raised the issue of national security in Jammu and Kashmir. In that case the areas where there is concern could be restricted. However, the internet restrictions should not be extended to entire state! Justice Ramana asked, what’s the number of total COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir? Hujefa Ahmadi, representing the petitioner, Freedom for Media Professionals (FMP) said that there are 354 cases of Covid in Jammu and Kashmir. “Notice was issued on 10th April. They could have filed response by now. Still if they need some more time, kindly ask them to do it expeditiously,” Huzefa said. Attorney General KK Venugopal, said, it is a very serious issue. Militancy is still there. When a militant was killed about 500 people came for the funeral. They are being made into martyrs. Justice Ramana asked Centre, to file an affidavit and say all of this. Case to be next taken up on April 27, Monday. |
