Testing only way to tackle crisis | | | Experts across the country are worried about the fact that 80% COVID-19 positive patients remain asymptomatic till this virus become fully active in the body. The only solution being put forth by the medicos and experts is that rate of testing needs to be increased to prevent COVID-19 from taking more lives. According to the media reports a few local companies have manufactured the rapid action testing kits and these are quite affordable but these are awaiting certification from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). If the ICMR gives its certification these kits can prove handy at least we will come to know whether a person is infected or not well in advance. Till these kits become available in the markets, people will have to depend upon the kits available in the government hospitals. There has been no news about whether the private diagnostic laboratories have started conducting COVId-19 tests or not. The rate which was fixed for one person to get tested was around Rs 4500/ but it seems the private labs have not still jumped into the fray. When expert say that 80% patients could be asymptomatic it's a cause of worry as these 80% people won't be knowing that they are carrying the virus. Situation is grim and lockdown being somewhat relaxed doesn't mean that virus has disappeared. It's very much there and can attack anyone. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has won accolades from the entire world for announcing the lockdown soon after the virus started spreading in India. The world leaders have praised PM Modi for taking a bold decision at a right time. Health experts have also stated that lockdown helped in keeping the numbers in control and saved the people from dying. At present India is in third stage. Doctors and experts are not sure about whether the community transmission has taken place or not. They are of the opinion that picture will be clear by May 15. If the cases and death rate remain under control then there is a chance about this virus being contained. But the World Health Organization has stated that normalcy cannot return till the scientists come up with a vaccine to tackle the COVID-19. Since March, when lockdown was announced, people across the country have been counting days and it seems they will have to count many more days till the things start moving again. |
