Weapon snatching bid foiled, 3 militants arrested in Shopian | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 21: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday arrested three militants at Keegam area of Shopian district of South Kashmir, who were trying to execute a weapon snatching bid at the naka party. Sources said that three suspected militants were arrested at Keegam, Shopian by the police. As per the reports, “Police also fired in air after the trio tried to escape when they were asked to stop at the naka point at Keegam. They were later arrested,” they said. A senior police official said, "Today around 1800 Hours Joint naka was established at Keegam Chowk of Shopian Police, CRPF and 44 RR, a vehicle bearing Regd Number 2020-TR-266B approached the naka at high speed. He added that in the high speed three militants were ravelling. The militants which were identified as Riyaz Ahmad Wagay, Parvaiz Ahmed Wagay resident of Nazneenpora and one unknown militant came at high speed in an Alto Number 2020-T/R-2664 B and lobbed a hand grenade which did not exploded. "During the ruckus militants snatched the weapon of Head Constable Rayees Ahmad Mir. Subsequently DySP concerned along with forces chased, apprehended Riyaz & Pervaiz and recovered the snatched weapons and besides this other arms and ammunition from mentioned persons have been recovered", he added. In this regard FIR no. 71/2020 has been registered in Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up.
