Provide combine machines to farmers, establish procurement centers: Sukhnandan | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, April 25: Administration is not paying any heed to the problems of the farmers as farmers are the worst hit by the lockdown, said Choudhury Sukhnandan ex Minister. He requested the Lieutenant Governor Murmu to intervene in the matter. As government has not provided machines to the farmers for harvesting wheat crop. farmers are not only facing the labour problem but they are also afraid of fire incidents. There is also apprehension of fire incidents as the farmers on the others side of international border are harvesting crops in full swing. Last year acres of standing wheat crop was burnt due fire which came from Pakistan side. As the government has not allowed the combine machines from Punjab to enter jammu and kashmir due to which problem of harvesting the crop has increased many folds. He asked the government to allow the machines to enter Jammu and kashmir, either Government should provide Combine Machines to the farmers so that they can harvest the crop timely. As the government has not established procurement centers (Mandies) for procurement the farmers will be facing problems of selling their produce. Mandies not established timely are increasing burden on the farmers as they have to first carry their produce to home and than to mandies double carriage is breaking the backbone of the farmers. He accused the government officials for not taking the problems of farmers seriously. If government fails to establish procurement centers the farmers will be forced sell their produce at lower rates which will be disastrous for farming community. The farmers are the worst hit by the lockdown if the situation prevails like this the sowing of Kharif crop will also affect adversely.
