SRINAGAR, Apr 25: The first day of the holy month of Ramadan came with sad news for a family of Tangmarg in Baramulla after an elderly man of the family passed away since he was affected by the Corona Virus. This was the sixth death due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir. At the same time the Kashmir valley saw a spike in the COVID-19 cases as 40 more persons tested positive in the past 24 hours. While 14 cases came to the fore on Friday night, 26 such cases were reported during the day today. Reports said that the man who passed away today was admitted at the SKIMS Medical College Bemina. An official said that SKIMS, Bemina unfortunately lost one patient namely Abdul Rahim aged 72 of Tangmarg, who had reported on April 13 with severe COVID Pneumonia, Grade II-III BHP, severe hypertension and had arterial fibrillations and could not pull out despite all efforts. So far six persons have fallen prey to Corona Virus in the union territory. While five persons have died in Kashmir, one person died in Udhampur. This is the second death due to the COVID-19 in the Tangmarg area of Baramulla district. In the Kashmir while three persons have died in the Baramulla district one each has passed away in Srinagar and Bandipora districts. Meanwhile, out of 40 fresh cases of Corona Virus 21 cases were reported from Anantnag in South Kashmir followed by Bandipora with eight cases, Srinagar four cases, Shopian three cases, Baramulla three cases and Kupwara one case. At the same time three COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 40 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 494. Out of 494 positive cases, 376 are active positive, 112 have recovered and six persons have died. “Furthermore, till date 66,343 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which includes 6,324 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 263 in hospital quarantine, 376 in hospital isolation and 10,974 under home surveillance. Besides, 48,400 persons have completed their surveillance period,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that out of 12,835 test results available, 12,341 samples have tested as negative till April 25, 2020. Moreover, three more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged, one from SKIMS-Soura and two from CD Hospital Jammu. Bandipora has 116 positive cases wherein 93 are active positive, 22 recovered and one has died and Srinagar 83 positive cases with 54 active positive, 28 recovered and one died. “Shopian has 63 positive cases with 52 active positive, 11 recovered; Baramulla 55 positive cases with 40 active positive, 12 recovered and three died; Kupwara has 46 positive cases with 40 active positive and six recovered; Anantnag district has 37 positive case and all are active positive; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases with 12 active positive and two have recovered; Budgam 14 positive cases of which five are active positive with nine recovered cases; Kulgam has six cases and all are active positive; Pulwama 03 positive cases who all have recovered,” reads the bulletin. Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases of whom 19 are active positive and seven have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 11 are active positive, eight recovered and one died, while as Samba district has four positive cases and all are active positive; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three cases have recovered; Kathua has one positive case which is active positive; Ramban has one positive case who is active positive. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case who has recovered. Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, it urged people to install Aarogya Setu app in order to prevent spread of COVID-19 in our country. “It will help us to stay informed with latest updates against COVID-19 & enable the Government to plan initiatives. It further urged people not to step out of home, unless absolutely necessary. “If you have to move out for unavoidable reasons, ensure that you wear a mask and practice social distancing, personal hygiene and frequent hand washing.” Similarly, all social, religious and other gatherings are strictly prohibited. People, the advisory said, must avoid close contact with anyone that has fever and cough and in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. |
