Academic arrangement candidates of Ladakh UT to get Rs 57,700, JK UT to get Rs 28,000
No letup in discrimination with J&K youth
4/26/2020 1:00:08 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 25: There seems to be no letup in the discrimination meted out to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir and in a recent development the academic arrangement candidates to be engaged in the Government Degree Colleges in Union Territory of Ladakh would be getting double the remuneration, being paid to the candidates in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Moreover, the academic arrangement candidates of Jammu region have been facing double discrimination as the candidates engaged in far flung areas of Ladakh as well as Kashmir province have been getting extra amount for serving in far flung areas but those serving in far flung areas of Jammu region have not been getting any such extra amount.
According to the notification issued by University of Ladakh for the engagement of Academic Arrangement lecturers in different colleges, the paragraph reads, “The candidates engaged as lecturer and teaching assistant shall be paid monthly remunerations for the period of engagement. As of now the University of Ladakh has proposed a remuneration equivalent to the basic pay of the Assistant Professors (without any allowances) to the Lecturers. Remuneration for the Teaching Assistant shall be 15% less than the Lecturer”.
Though it was written in the notification that the proposal of paying remuneration is subject to the clearance from the higher authorities but the proposal is as per the direction of Supreme Court of India, which has advocated for equal work for equal pay.
Many Universities across India have been paying the basic pay of Assistant Professor to the lecturers engaged in colleges which accounted for Rs. 57,700, whereas as teaching assistant would get Rs. 49,045 in Ladakh UT.
However, in case of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the lecturers engaged have been getting Rs. 28,000 whereas the teaching assistants have been getting Rs. 22,000. “For similar work the candidates in JK UT are getting half the amount paid to Ladakh UT candidates as well as in other states of the country,” said a source.
Moreover, the candidates of Jammu province have been facing double discrimination. According to the notification of Ladakh University, all the candidates serving in Zanskar would get additional allowance of
Rs 5,000 per month while the candidates working in GDC Drass and GDC Nubra would get an additional allowance of Rs. 2500 per month. “Similarly candidates working in far flung areas in Kashmir get additional allowance but candidates working in remote areas of Jammu province are not given any additional allowance, which is double discrimination”, a lecturer alleged.
The academic arrangement lecturers engaged in Jammu and Kashmir hailed the decision of Ladakh UT administration for implementing the Supreme Court guidelines. “The UT administration of Jammu and Kashmir should also implement the Apex Court guidelines and pay the candidates basic salary of Assistant Professor,” they demanded.
