Restrictions intensified in Kashmir on first day of Ramzan | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 25 : Restrictions on movement and assembly of people to curtail the spread of Coronavirus were further intensified as the holy month of Ramzan commenced from Saturday in Kashmir, which recorded the biggest single-day jump of 40 new COVID-19 cases. With this, as many as 138 from Kashmir were tested positive for the infection this week so far in Kashmir, prompting authorities to further tighten the lockdown which remained imposed since March 18. In view of upward spiral in COVID-19 cases in the valley, experts have advised people in ‘Red Zones’ not to venture out of their homes except under medical emergencies. However, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Saturday said that it was very disheartening to see people using forged passes and scanned copies to move in the city, which recorded five new Coronavirus cases after a break of more than a week. Dr Choudhary said that the situation calls for more caution. Officials told news agency that restrictions continued for the 37th successive day to combat the spread of COVID-19 in Kashmir valley. ‘’Main roads in most places in the valley remained sealed while barriers were erected at other places to check unwanted movement of people,’’ they said, adding all roads leading to areas, which were declared as ‘Red Zones’ after several COVID-19 positive cases surfaced from there, also remained sealed. They said several dozen people have been arrested while over 100 vehicles have been sealed for violating the lockdown order during the last 48 hours in the valley, where shops and business establishments remained closed while streets were deserted due to strict restrictions imposed by authorities to curtail the spread of Coronavirus.ts on Friday. |
