COVID-19 threat far from over | | | Centre’s decision to extend the lockdown for two more weeks has driven home a point that no chances can be taken at this point of time. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the States and Union Territories to facilitate the movement of the stranded migrant workers and students but has asked them to follow standard operating procedures. In Jammu region, COVID-19 cases have been much lesser than Kashmir. Most of the patients have recovered and it appears that within a few days Jammu will be declared as COVID-19 free district. Everyone is talking about what next after lockdown. More important now is what should be our future strategy. And how we need to march ahead. There is no second thought about the fact that social distancing is going to stay with us for longtime and wearing of masks will become mandatory. So, there are bleak possibilities about big gatherings or congregations being held in near future. The world is going to be an entirely different place to live in after the COVID-19 ends. We will have to be more disciplined and organized than we used to be earlier. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already stated that the virus is going to stay there for long and till the vaccine becomes available the threat will loom large. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, took a bold decision in March month by announcing a lockdown. He didn’t wait for situation to take an ugly turn. But now lifting the lockdown is a bigger challenge. At this point of time no one will want the situation to take an ugly turn. Restrictions are going to continue in the areas that have been denoted as “Hot Spots” and “Red Zones” and the interstate movement will remain restricted. Fight against the COVID-19 is still a long-drawn battle and there is no chance of complacency. People of Jammu by observing exemplary discipline during the lockdown period have once proved that they are aware about their rights and duties. They deserve accolades for remaining firm on their resolve to fight this deadly virus. The next test is all set to begin and everyone expects people of Jammu to continue the battle against COVID-19 with resilience and courage they have shown during the past 40-days. |
