JAMMU, May 7: A programme to celebrate Buddha Jayanti following all protocols of COVID-19 was organized here today in Ward No 73 by Councilor Prof (Dr) Youdhvir Singh.
On the occasion, ration kits consisting of millets, grocery, spices, sugar, oil and flour were distributed amongst all the Safai Karmacharis working in the area taking all the risk of Corona pandemic prevailing in whole of the world, affecting the purchasing power of masses, particularly the labour class. Keeping in mind the efforts and their dedication to help the public lead a safe and clean life the corona warriors were felicitated by distributing them ration items avoiding the traditional method, showering of flower petals which is nothing but tokenism.
In the present circumstances, when whole society is passing through very turbulent times, these Safai Karamcharis are working day in and day out dauntlessly worrying not about their family and self. They are helping society by sanitizing the areas falling in Ward No 73 of Municipal Corporation Jammu, carrying a spray pump with the load capacity of 35kg which is really tiring. To acknowledge their services for a meager wages was acknowledged. During the program the permanent staff of the Municipal Corporation namely Joginder Singh (Sanitary Inspector) and Kirna Devi, Supervisor were also given the mementoes as a token of respect.
During the programme Harjinder Singh Raina, former Gen Secy District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Jammu (DGPC) and presently member, Darbinder Singh Cashier (DGPC) and Mohinder Singh Chief Organizer (Bhai Kanhaiya Nishkam Seva Society J&K) were also present.
