Are sweet shops closed or operational in Jammu? | “Sweets Packets” of renowned shop distributed in saffron party’s function, raise eyebrows | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 7: The availability of a packet of “Sweets” at a function of saffron party's Mahila Morcha’s newly elected president has raised eyebrows among the public as whether the shops are closed during lockdown or it is only for general public and not the renowned shopkeepers as well as for politicians. According to the photographs circulated on social media sites, the newly elected president of Mahila Morcha of Saffron party, could be seen assuming the charge of president. She could be seen accompanied by two other saffron party Mahila wing leaders, overthrowing the physical distancing norms as the three ladies could be standing shoulder to shoulder for getting their photographs clicked, while the facemasks of all of them were also down. More intriguing was the presence of a packet of “Sweets”, bearing the name and logo of a famous shop from Jammu, which raised eyebrows among the party workers as well as common citizens. The packet of the sweets could be seen placed at the table, in one photograph, it is still in the envelope, while in the other photographs it is open and probably some pieces of the sweets would have been shared by the newly elected president as well as other office bearers. “On papers and as per directions of the UT administration the sweet shops have been closed for the last over forty days now but the availability of the packet of sweet shops signals towards the hidden production of the sweets by the renowned shopkeepers under the nose of authorities as well as distribution to some political influential customers”, a shopkeeper said, adding that it could be inferred that the production as well as sale of the sweets by the sweetshop owners has been going on through backdoor channels. The UT administration should initiate an enquiry to find the truth and penalize the owner, who has been jeopardizing the health of large number of masses. “Either allow all the sweet shop owners or take action against the violators. Otherwise it is clear that the restrictions are only for poor and gullible people and not for the rich and influential people, who have been doing their business as routine”, a sweet shop owner said. |
