Curfew-like restrictions in parts of Kashmir, stone pelting incidents in Pulwama | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 7: Curfew-like restrictions were imposed on Thursday as a precautionary measure in many parts of Kashmir valley even as sporadic incidents of stone pelting took place in Pulwama's Awantipora, the hometown of slain Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Reyaz Naikoo. Meanwhile, cellular and mobile internet services of all companies remained suspended for the second successive day on Thursday due to security reasons in Kashmir valley, where Naikoo was among four militants killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama on Wednesday. Restrictions were also imposed in most parts of the valley, including Srinagar, soon after the news about Naikoo's killing spread. Even though Kashmir is already under third phase of COVID-19 lockdown, additional security forces have been deployed in many sensitive areas, including downtown Srinagar, to maintain law and order in the valley. However, reports of stone pelting were received from Awantipora and adjoining areas since early Thursday morning. About 16 people were injured in stone pelting incidents in the valley on Wednesday in south Kashmir. Some stone pelting incidents were also reported from downtown on Wednesday. In a major success, security forces on Wednesday killed Naikoo besides three other militants in two separate encounters which ensued after security forces launched Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
