Despite hundreds of legal actions, Kashmir unwilling to learn lessons on Covid-19 | Jammu continues to show way to fight pandemic | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 9: While Jammu is setting national example of discipline in fighting Covid-19, the number of coronavirus positive cases has been on rise in Kashmir as the people of the winter capital region look unwilling to adhere to the norms of the lockdown thereby risking lives everyone. Officials said the public reluctance in Kashmir is despite the fact that hundreds of them have faced legal action in the last over a month. Sharing figures the official said around a hundred persons have been arrested in the last over a month long lockdown while around a thousand have been booked for various offences linked to violation of the lockdown. Officials said on daily basis around half a dozen persons are arrested, over two dozen vehicles are seized and around one dozen shops sealed. Sharing details of one particular day, a police official said on May 1 alone, police arrested four persons and seized 26 vehicles for defying the Govt orders in Kulgam, Sopore besides, sealed 10 shops in Srinagar. While north, south and central Kashmir have been bearing the brunt of the cases, the people are unwilling to stay indoors in the Red Zones. In a single day, police station Sopore seized 15 vehicles for violation of norms, while police station Tarzoo seized 10 vehicles. In Red Zone of old city in Srinagar, around a dozen shops were sealed in a day. Officials said Jammu having almost become Corona free, on the other hand, was competing with places like Goa where the ailment has seemingly ended. Officials said as per the national statistics of decline in the number of cases, Jammu has bagged rank among the places which have shown the nation the way of overcoming the ailment. The role of people of Jammu has been appreciable in maintaining discipline on social distancing and other norms as put in place by the government with regard to the lockdown. “One thing is clear that because of discipline shown by the people Jammu will reopen in phases in the coming days but Kashmir will have to wait,” the official said. |
