Omar tweets suggest he is in favour of clandestine deal with GoI | Party sources say leadership desperate to become part of centre’s Naya Kashmir agenda | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 9: National Conference is sending enough feelers over its readiness to seek support from the central government so that it could manage to stay in the power corridors if any future arrangement is made in Jammu and Kashmir. The recent tweet of NC Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has raised may eyebrows, giving rise to the speculations that NC is ready to enter into any deal for staying close to the power corridors and gain maximum out of the situation that erupted post August 5, last year. Take Omar’s this tweet for example. “General Secretary of @JKNC_Sagar Sb has also had his PSA extended by a further 3 months. I’m struggling to get my head around the decision & the logic behind it because it smacks of vindictiveness & nothing else. New Delhi needed to make friends in J&K but is doing the opposite.” The tweet has generated huge debate on social media with political pundits predicting that NC is graving to enter into a deal with the GoI for the future course of action in Jammu and Kashmir. “The last time, the party was in power was in the year 2014. More than six years have passed and if its leadership doesn’t strike a deal with the central government, it means it will be again away from power for more than half a decade. This will be extremely excruciating for the party,” says a senior NC worker based in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District- considered as party’s strong fort during polls. On social media also, the news of NC entering into a secret pact with central government is abuzz with people speculating that the party leadership’s silence on crucial matters is tacit acceptance of its closed door pact with the union government The government while setting Dr Farooq Abdullah free from custody on March 13 simply revoked his PSA detention order. The authorities didn’t divulge whether the bond has been signed by the NC patriarch or not. Ten days later, when Dr Farooq’s son- Omar Abdullah- was released after serving detention of more than seven months, there hasn’t been any news of about the bond signing either. Also, when Omar walked free from Hari Niwas, he was surrounded from all sides by the journalists who were eager to know his views on Article 370 abrogation. Omar toed his father’s line and preferred not to speak on this issue. He cited the ongoing COVID-19 threat as the major reason for maintaining silence. However, his father, when he was set free chose a different reason to stay away from the issue of Article 370. He maintained that he will not speak till the politicians detained by the government aren’t freed. Talking to reporters at his Gupkar residence, soon after he was released from almost eight month long detention by the J&K government, Omar said that as far as Article 370 and 35 A, he will speak on the issues openly in detail later. “At present, I will speak about how we can get rid of Covid-19. We are fighting a big fight against Corona Virus. Today, when we were asked to maintain social distancing, here we are together violating the very orders,” he said. |
