JE Rural Development Department, contractor inflate bill of work done | | | Ajay Sharma Early Times Report
RAJOURI, May 18: A Junior Engineer of Rural Development Department (RDD) along with a local contractor of Barnara village of Sunderbani Tehsil in this border district are all set to cause loss of lakhs to the state ex-chequer by showing inflating bills of a work carried out in the village. Sources told Early Times that the Panchayat of Nallah, Vill. Barnara allotted the work of leveling the ground of Government High School to a local and the total estimate of the work was two lakh rupees. The contractor hired a JCB and carried out the work at the estimated cost of Rs. 40,000. However, the contractor along with a Junior Engineer of RDD inflated the estimated cost and showed that the work was carried out with a cost of two and half lakh rupees. The locals after coming to know about the development informed the concerned Executive Engineer about the fraud being done by the JE and the contractor. The locals urged the Executive Engineer to carry out re-verification of the work so that the picture becomes crystal clear. The locals said that few years back a work was allotted but the same was not carried out, even though the payment was made. The locals urged Director Vigilance to hold a probe in the matter so that stern action is taken against the guilty. When contacted, Raman Sharma Block Development Officer Sunderbani said that the payment would be made according to the work estimate prepared by the department. He said the claims of the contractor would be re-verified and it would be ensured not a single penny is paid more to the contractor.
