Admin needs to change course of action to address people’s problems : Munish Gupta | Uncarpeted roads, poor drainage irk residents of Lane No 15, Sector 7, Guru Nanak Nagar | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 18: Editor-in-chief, Early Times, Munish Gupta, has slammed the authorities for failing to provide basic civic amenities at Lane Number 15 in Sector 7 of Guru Nanak Nagar area due to which the residents there are facing a lot of inconveniences. Munish said that pathetic condition of inner roads and insanitary conditions prevailing in Lane Number 15 of Sector 7, Nanak Nagar are glaring examples of administrative apathy. “Residents of Lane Number 15 in Sector 7 of Guru Nanak Nagar are grappling with several civic issues but there is hardly any redressal of their problems. The tall claims of the administration to develop the city on modern lines remain only on papers. If such is the state of affairs in various sectors of Guru Nanak Nagar, an area close to posh colonies like Gandhi Nagar and Trikuta Nagar, then what will be the fate of other localities of the city,” said Munish. He said that time has come for the administration to sit back and introspect. “Those at the helm of affairs should find out why Jammu is still far behind than other cities of the country in development aspect,” said Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency. “Administration needs to change its course of action as people cannot be taken for a ride every time. People cannot keep on believing the claims of illusionary development. The advancement in any sphere should be reflected on ground,” added Munish. Meanwhile, residents of Lane Number 15 in Sector 7 of Guru Nanak Nagar while speaking to Early Times said that negligence and lack of will of the administration is to be blamed for the “pitiable condition” of their area. “It has been years since blacktopping was done here. Whenever we approach officials concerned to repair the roads, they just give assurances, but nothing is done. Hundreds of people living in the area are facing problems as the place turns into a cesspool during rains due to pot holes developed on roads,” the residents said. The locals said that the problem isn’t just confined to poor condition of roads but also extends to poor drainage facilities adding that several roads get waterlogged on a frequent basis due to accumulation of dirty water in the locality because of choked sewerage. “We have battling potholed roads and improper drainage facilities in major part of our locality but nobody from the administration takes a sympathetic view of these difficulties being faced by us,” the aggrieved residents said. Several local residents, while expressing their resentment said that the government enjoys taxpayers’ money but isn’t doing much for the welfare of people. “Not only uncarpeted as well as potholed roads and the incorrect drainage system but the entire locality is also confronting with the problem of littering in open spaces. With no specific points to dump garbage, the people in the locality tend to throw waste in the vacant spots. Several complaints have been made in this regard but the attitude of officials has been non-cooperative,” the residents said. “Due to garbage dumping in open spaces mosquitoes, flies, diseases and stench have become a part of our lives. The foul smell is unbearable in rainy season. We have complained many times but no solution has been arrived at till date,” they added.
