Trust in fairness of decisions prerequisite for good Govt: Sanjeev | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, June 13: Reminding central government to deliver what they have promised before coming to power Sanjeev Sharma, Senior Vice President, DCC, Poonch referred to the wider gulf between their preaching and practice and growing resentment of general public against anti-people policies of government. The consistency in the criticism of present government is evident from a cursory scan of social media pages from the region referring major decisions of the government either as unacceptable or betrayal. The controversy over the domicile law is not hidden from anybody. In the similar vein but not hopeful of similar results, the case of toll plazas has been a new entrant in the current discourse, highlighted Sharma. He further raised his concern over the notification of such important decisions especially during the COVID-19 pandemic when people are finding even hard to save their lives. He said for a good governance to take firm root, public participation and transparency in major policy decisions are the prerequisites. The idea of welfare state brings human rights at its focal point. It would have been better if government tried to ascertain the wishes of common people before notifying decisions of such nature. He alleged that the BJP leaders who themselves had formerly protested against it now maintains a stoic silence over the installation of new toll plazas in Jammu division. It’s high time to give precedence to the voice of people who are otherwise feeling betrayed at the hands of present dispensation by following pro-people policies and showing responsiveness to the opinions of relevant stakeholders within the constitutional arrangement, he emphasized. |
