BJP divided over openly supporting no-confidence motion against Srinagar Mayor | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, June 15: While Congress has decided to abstain from voting during the no-confidence motion against Srinagar Municipal Corporation mayor Junaid Azam Mattu, BJP is in confusion to openly support the move. The National Conference has already decided not to support the non-confidence motion. Credible sources said that a group within BJP was pressurizing the party to openly support a no-confidence motion, another group has suggested the leadership to maintain a distance from the whole exercise. Recently BJP has recommended that the security cover be provided to former deputy mayor Sheikh Imran, who is behind moving of the no-confidence motion. Some BJP leaders are claiming that the no-confidence motion was moved by Independent corporators so the party was not involved in any such move. Meanwhile in a statement, the Congress said that it has decided to refrain from voting during the no-confidence motion against the Mayor. The move of Congress is seen as an attempt to defeat the no-confidence motion, which has the backing of BJP. Congress decided to abstain after mayor and Peoples Conference spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu met PCC Chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir at his residence here. Soon after Mattu left Mir’s residence, Sheikh Muhammad Imran also reached there and sought party’s support for no-confidence motion. But the party decided to abstain. |
