Crises within Congress swell with each passing day | High command forgets party’s former JK Chief, son jumps into chorus | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 15: Congress party on Monday was caught on a wrong foot when a verbal duel was witnessed between two national leaders of the party over the incarceration of one of their veterans in Jammu and Kashmir. A senior national congress leader, Sanjay Jha came out with a bizarre tweet over the prolonged detention of the former state congress chief Saif-ud-din Soz. Jha wrote on twitter, “My friend @SalmanSoz ‘s father is still under detention in Kashmir. Why is that?” The tweet seems to have anguished Soz's son, Salman Anees Soz who targeted his senior colleague over tweeting about senior Soz’s incarceration in such a casual manner. “Thanks Sanjay. Prof. Saifuddin Soz is not just my father. He is a former Union Minister, Ex- MP of both houses of Parliament, former member of the Congress Working Committee and Ex-President of J&K Congress. If this can happen to him, what must be the plight of other Kashmiris?.” A senior Delhi based journalist jumped into the chorus, ridiculing Congress for undermining the hardships of its own leaders. “Salman, I have to say it’s quite sad to see your own party leadership not take this issue up more forcefully. Not just for your father, but the many other mainstream leaders still in detention. I said it before and I say it again,” was how she described the entire scenario on her twitter handle. Meanwhile, the tweets have drastically cleared up the entire picture. There are crises emerging within the Congress and the groupism taking toll within the party could anytime take shape of an inferno. Prior to this, the senior leaders of the Congress had intimated the high command over the alleged narcissist approach by the Congress MP G.N Azad who wanted the limelight for himself and didn't even inform his colleagues in Srinagar about his visit to the NC president after latter’s release from custody after seven months. “The party was planning to do it as a team. We wanted to meet the NC President and a team was all set to comprise a few veteran Congress leaders. Sensing trouble for himself, Azad decided to do it solo. Such an action hasn’t gone well within the ranks,” says a Congress functionary. There were also reports making rounds that the Congress may seek an explanation from Azad over why he didn't inform his senior colleagues within the party about his meeting with Dr Farooq and it would have sent a positive signal across if a team and not him alone would have met the freed NC leader. Pertinent to mention here that Azad grabbed headlines when he slammed the newly formed JKAP and termed it a mere creation of agencies. He also made several eyebrows to raise by not raking up the issue pertaining to Article 370 and Article 35-A. Azad while talking to the media persons along with Dr Farooq pitched for the restoration of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and preferred not to raise any issue pertaining to the abrogation of 370 and whether the order issued on August 5, last year should be rolled back. |
