EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, June 26: Political parties across the spectrum have no regard for the social distancing norms as well as precautionary measures recommended to be adopted by people in view of COVID-19 infections.
In the recent case, it is the Congress party workers which organized a protest demonstration over fuel price hike outside Deputy Commissioner Officer Kathua but all the norms and guidelines have been thrown into dustbin and it seemed as if the Congress workers are in the impression that Coronavirus has already exited from the country.
On Thursday afternoon, more than five dozen Congress party workers had assembled outside the office of Deputy Commissioner Kathua and as per the photographs circulated on the social networking platforms, the workers could be seen huddled in a group and it appeared that there was no Corona threat in the country. Only half a dozen workers had face masks covering their mouth, while some others had their face masks hanging in their necks.
The protest was reported organized by District Youth Congress. Some of the Congress workers in the protest had placards in their hands, which reads, “Janta Behal, Bhajpa Khushal”, “Toll Plaza Bandh Karo”, “Petrol Diesel Ki Badi Keemten Vapis Karo”, while some other workers had party flags.
“There was no social distancing or the health advisories taken into consideration by the protesters. Earlier the Saffron party leaders were found violating the social distancing norms and now the Congress party workers. These people claimed themselves to be the Party leaders and the leaders are to be followed by the public. But if the leaders are themselves violating the social distancing norms as well as health advisories that too at a time, when COVID-19 infections have been increasing in India as well as in Jammu and Kashmir, it is suicidal”, a political worker said.
Moreover, after staging protest demonstrations the DYC activities also presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Kathua. As per photographs uploaded on the social networking sites, the DYC leaders could be seen submitting a memorandum to DC but again the social distancing norms were openly flouted. Some of the leaders had to wear face masks but it was beyond comprehension as to why a large number of leaders went inside the DC chamber to submit a memorandum, when the same task could be performed by a single individual.
“Despite the fact that COVID-19 infections have been rising but people have abandoned the past practice of maintaining social distancing as well as wearing masks and this tendency among the common masses as well as politicians could be responsible for more infections in the country”, a politician said, adding that earlier also politicians had flouted the norms and no action was taken against them, which encouraged the other party leaders to organize such functions but it would ultimately be disastrous for everyone.
