Omar’s flip-flop on Twitter deactivation draws flak from NC
6/26/2020 11:33:37 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 26: While former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is believed to be leading the Kashmir politicians for the big number of followers on Twitter, he had recently gone into hiding from the social media drawing flak from his own party over his “mood-swings”.
Recently, the Twitter handle of Omar Abdullah had suddenly disappeared from the microblogging website.
While initially it was believed that Omar may have deleted the account in the wake of trolls trying to corner him, after around three-four hours the account was again visible.
A senior official working with Cyber activities said that “one thing is clear that he (Omar) had not deleted his account but had only deactivated it.”
But why had Omar deactivated the account and why he reactivated it within hours has emerged as a major embarrassment for the NC.
The social media was flooded with ridicule of the NC with the netizens asking that a politician who is confused about his social media account is not expected to do much for the people.
Irked by the public questions, the NC leaders are understood to have told the party “high command” and NC patron Dr Farooq Abdullah that he should raise the issue with his son.
Sources said the NC leaders have conveyed it to Dr Abdullah that the behavior of his son has become detrimental for the image of the party.
What has made the issue even controversial is that Omar has been camping in New Delhi for the last over a fortnight where as chances of his early return look bleak.
“What is he(Omar) doing in Delhi and playing hide and seek on Twitter? This is the genuine question which each of the party leaders is asking and the answer is awaited. A leader who stays away from his own people in times of crises cannot be called a leader but opportunist,” said a NC leader on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts, Omar couldn’t be contacted for comments.
