Congress hold protest across Kathua district against fuel prices

KATHUA, July 3: The District Congress Committee on Friday protested against the unprecedented hike in prices of petrol, diesel and other essential commodities across the district Kathua.
Former MLC Subash Gupta who leads the protest in Hiranagar said that , “The BJP government is fleecing people by imposing heavy taxes. When they assumed power in 2014, the excise duty was ₹9.20 per litre on petrol and ₹3.46 per litre on diesel. But now A 820% hike on diesel and 258% on petrol is shocked everybody,” he said. The protestors Carrying placards raised slogans againdt BJP Govt and submitted a memorandum to S D M Hiranagar demanding rollback of hiked prices of fuels The Congress also protested against the rising prices of petrol and diesel in Ramkot of Billawer sub division, which was led by former minister and DCC president Dr. Manohar Lal. The protestors raised slogans against BJP government and demanded immediate roll back of fuel prices.
In Nagari town of Kathua, the congress workers sat on dharna and raised slogans against Modi led BJP government. Speaking on the occasion congress leader Pankaj Dogra said the common masses are reeling due to Covid-19 outbreak, the BJP government was turning disaster into opportunity to make quick bucks. They said the government has burdened the people by increasing the excise duty on petrol and diesel.
