Kudos to PM Modi for launching Asia’s largest Solar power Project | | | Vinod Chandrashekhar Dixit
Recently our PM Narendra Modi has dedicated to the Nation the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power project to the Nation which is Asia's largest power project. While inaugurating our PM said that the Rewa project will make the entire region a major hub for pure and clean energy in this decade. He praised the effort in that it will also supply power to the Delhi Metro, along with the entire region surrounding Rewa. The project is 750-megawatt ultra mega solar power plant will reduce emission equivalent to approximately 15 lakh tonne of carbon dioxide every year. It is to be appreciated that the government has planned to overcome the challenge by launching the schemes like development of solar parks and ultra mega solar power projects in India. With the launch of this solar project Madhya Pradesh will be the main centre of Solar Energy in India, as such major projects are in progress in Neemuch, Shajapur, Chattarpur and Omkareshwar and the much beneficiaries of this would be the poor, the middle class, the tribals, the farmers of Madhya Pradesh, he said. The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a joint venture of state-owned Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (MPUVNL), comprises three solar generating units of 250MW each located on a 500-hectare plot of land inside a solar park with a total area of 1500 hectare. An advantage of this form of energy is that it is cost effective to use such products. Even though the initial installation costs are comparably higher, their maintenance and other expenses are very low. PM Modi described Solar Energy as one which is ‘Sure, Pure & Secure’. Sure because of the continuous supply of Energy from the Sun, Pure as it is environment friendly and Secure because it is a secure source for our energy needs. He termed such Solar Energy projects are a true representation of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). Promoting the use of solar energy in replacement with many other technologies will help in the reduction of pollution as well as the destruction of many other non-renewable energies. Referring to the ongoing crisis owing to the pandemic COVID-19, the PM Modi rightly said that for either the Government or the society, compassion and vigilance are the greatest motivators to tackle this difficult challenge. He said right from the beginning of the Lockdown the Government ensured that the poor and needy are assured of supply of food and fuel. He said with the same spirit, the Government decided to continue the free supply of food and LPG till November this year, even during the phase of unlockdown. It is to be agreed that the utilization of solar energy can become a boon to lots of people but the high cost of its equipment and devices stop people from using it. Solar energy is one energy source that does not negatively affect the environment and cannot be exhausted. Solar energy also puts less burden on the other forms of non-renewable resources and protects the earth from various types of pollutions. The government should take some steps to reduce the cost of solar energy’s equipment so that people can make the best use of it for their benefits. There is no doubt that the way India’s is utilising solar power, it is going to be discussed further and is being considered as the most attractive market of clean energy. |
