UDHAMPUR, July 16: IQAC of Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized a day long national Online workshop on “Food Adulteration, its Consequences and Mitigation Measures”. The session was initiated by Prof Brinder Kumar, Coordinator IQAC, followed by the formal welcome address by Worthy Principal, Prof. Minu Mahajan. Wherein, she introduced the topic and underlined the relevance of the same, saying that the topic has become a burning issue in our lives ever since we have shifted from traditional food habits to modern food habits, especially to the culture of fast food. The day was divided into pre and post lunch sessions. In pre-lunch session two speakers were invited to speak. In the first slot Dr Ashwani Kumar, Assistant Professor Department of Food Science and Technology, Lovely Professional University discussed in detail about the Additives & Adulterants in common food. Besides, he also threw light on various tests to detect these adulterants. Thereafter, in the second slot Dr Sanju Bala Dhull, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa enlightened the participants about different adulterants and their impact on human health. In the afternoon session, Dr Anil Panghal, Assistant Scientist, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hissar had a word of discussion regarding the measures to control food adulteration. He also explained the significance of consumer protection and food safety act.
