Modi’s mission to be ‘skill development’ and ‘Skilled India’ | | | Vinod Chandrashekhar Dixit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had delivered a video address on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day the 5th anniversary of the launch of Skill India Mission. Skill India is an initiative of the Government of India which has been launched to empower the youth of the country with skill sets which make them more employable and more productive in their work environment. PM Modi said there is a need to learn and upgrade our skills during the times of coronavirus and adapt to the new needs. The aim of World Youth Skills Day is to encourage youth to celebrate the value of acquiring skills like building, making, and creating as a way to achieve personal success and fulfillment. If we have to promote the development of our country then our mission has to be `skill development’ and `Skilled India’. Millions and Millions of Indian youth should acquire the skills which could contribute towards making India a modern country. Skill India offers courses across several sectors which are aligned to the standards recognised by both, the industry and the government under the National Skill Qualification Framework. The courses help a person focus on practical delivery of work and help him enhance his technical expertise so that he is ready for day one of his job and companies don’t have to invest into training him for his job profile. Consequently, education and training are key aspects to being successful in the labour market. Unfortunately, existing educational systems are unable to address the learning needs of many young people. It is nice that the government has taken good Initiatives and schemes under the Skill India mission such as the National Skill Development Corporation India (NSDC) which provides vocational training, capital grants, and industrial counseling, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) which provides short term trainings to unemployed youth, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana which is an employment scheme meant exclusively for the poor rural youth and Green Skill Development Programme where practical sessions on biodiversity conservation, waste management, natural resource utilization, handicrafts business, etc., are covered under this program. Apart from this there are many other initiatives like craftsmen training scheme, apprenticeship training, skill development for minorities, financial assistance for people with disabilities, etc. Skills and knowledge development are the driving forces behind the financial growth and community development of any country. Skill building is a powerful tool to empower individuals and improve their social acceptance. Modi has rightly said that “Skill is something which we gift ourselves, which grows with experience. Skill is timeless, it keeps getting better with time. Skill is unique, it makes you different from others.” We need economic reforms and should motivate people to reach higher, come up with innovative ideas, and take bold decisions. The Prime Minister also spoke on how one’s skills make them self-reliant and can take them to great heights. He also said skills make on employable as well as self-employed. The challenge lies not only in a huge quantitative expansion of facilities
for skill training, but also in raising their quality. India can then become the global sourcing hub for skilled employees. Today’s youth are ready to break and make changes globally. They are filled with unlimited energy and potential to become successful in all fields of life. They seek out challenges, innovation and creativity. |
