Social distancing norms go for a toss as people throng Narwal Mandi | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 27: Following the period of weekend lockdown imposed due to sudden spike in Covid-19 positive cases in Jammu gets over this morning, the wholesale vegetable market at Narwal witnessed a huge rush of people. The buyers, who thronged the Narwal Mandi, on outskirts of Jammu city, were seen jostling with each other while moving from one counter of vegetables to another without caring for the social distancing norms and SoPs issued by the administration from time to time ever since the outbreak of coronavirus and its spread. Not only the customers but the vegetable traders also failed to comply to the SoPs as most of the shops were over-crowded. Purchasers, comprising mostly of street vendors, looked eager only to add varieties to their vegetable stocks after the two-day break, though a large number of retail buyers also reached the wholesale market. Keeping in view the threat of COVID-19, only a few veggie traders had arranged sanitizers so that customers could apply them on their hands before purchasing but a majority of the vendors were selling vegetables without following the Covid protocol. Police personnel deployed at the market urged people to follow the social distancing rules, but not many listened to their pleas.
