NC Vice President in Op-ed hinting at fighting polls without 370, 35-A | Omar fighting for his lost protocol! | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 27: Last week Government issued a warrant of precedence to be observed in all ceremonial functions of Jammu and Kashmir, placing Lt Governor of the Union Territory in equal protocol to Cabinet Secretary. The Chief Minister of the Union Territory was placed at 15th number along with Cabinet Ministers of State. The detailed op-ed piece written by National Conference’s vice President Omar Abdullah in a New Delhi based newspaper on Monday clearly elaborated that Omar instead of fighting for roll back of August 5, 2019, decision has resolved to fight for the lost protocol. While J&K remains a Union Territory, I will NOT contest assembly elections,” this is the silence breaking statement of Omar Abdullah, former Chief Minister of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir today made in an op-ed published on a reputed newspaper “after a year, the Articles 370 and 35-A were abrogated, 05 August 2019. “As for me, I am very clear that while J&K remains a Union Territory I will not be contesting any Assembly elections. Having been a member of the most empowered Assembly in the land and that, too, as the leader of that Assembly for six years, I simply cannot and will not be a member of a House that has been disempowered the way ours has,” he wrote. This became clear that this leader of one of the oldest political parties in Jammu and Kashmir has subtly accepted the abrogation of Article 370 and special status of the erstwhile State. All this former chief minister is fighting for now is the restoration of statehood so that in case his party wins elections and he becomes the chief minister, his protocol wouldn’t be less than that of the chief minister of any other state. Otherwise, the NC vice-president hasn’t even hinted at a single place about the party's stand on Article 370. He meticulously in the op-ed ducked the 370 abrogation issue, hinting that his party would contest the polls even without 370 in place. “The party is now sending enough feelers that it is comfortable with the post abrogation scenario and it has passed the buck to Supreme Court where the matter is pending at present. The party has culminated all its efforts in restoration of statehood. Its views are now no different from what the BJP and Apni party is stating at present,” says a senior scribe based in Jammu. Meanwhile, Omar seems to have seconded Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad who has raised the similar demands. Recently while meeting the Prime Minister, Azad demanded that the statehood should be immediately restored and it should be followed by the Assembly election. Has NC finally shunned the 370 rhetoric and has found solace in statehood restoration? The present time is with each passing day answering the question. |
