Expired medicines administered to patients at DH Kishtwar, DC orders probe | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 18: In a major goof up and a medical negligence, the hospital authorities at District Hospital Kishtwar provided expired medicine to majority of the pregnant women who had undergone operation or had delivered the baby on their own. As per the details available with Early Times, the expire medicine including Glucose fluid which expired in the month of October 2019, nearly 10 months exceed from the date of expiry was given to the patients in maternity ward of the hospital and the concern officials including store in charge fail to destroy these expired doses of medicine or fail to separate these expired medicines from the stock- thus putting the lives of the patients to risk. After patient attendants notice the goof up, they raise the alarm as a result of which the hospital management immediately swung into action to hide their failure beside also erase the expiry date written on the Glucose bottles which was thrown by them inside dustbin after infusing them to the patients. Speaking to Early Times Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara said that he had come across the matter and had order probe into the matter. He said that though preliminary inquiry suggested that the said expire medicine did not used on any patients, but keeping in view of the non seriousness approach of some staff member- Chief Medical Officer Kishtwar has been asked to get the matter inquired and submit the report with in two days. DC Kishtwar said that whosoever will be found guilty- will be punished.
