Early Times report
Jammu, Aug 20: Keeping the concern of Novel Coronavirus in mind and taking all preventive measures, the Jammu administration, in a unique initiative, has started a campaign to facilitate common people by issuing the Domicile certificates at their doorstep. Under this campaign, the administration is issuing certificates to people at their doorstep, to prevent the spread of the global pandemic. The Domicile Certificate has been made a mandatory document by the government to protect the interests of citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, after it was created as a Union Territory, post abrogation of Article 370. ‘Likewise in all parts of the country, COVID cases are increasing in Jammu and Kashmir as well and in view to prevent its spread, this decision was taken by the Jammu District Administration to issue the important document at the doorstep of the common masses,’ an official said. He said that long queues were seen outside the government offices in Jammu district, to apply for the certificate or to obtain it from their respective tehsils. ‘The exercise has been made easier and those not applying online, can now apply on the spot at the camps being organised by the officials, in their respective jurisdictions in rural belts,’ he added. Due to low speed (2G) internet facility in Jammu district, not only the applicants, but also the web cafe owners are upset as they are unable to fill the forms in one go for those applying for the domicile certificate, following which people have started visiting the government offices personally, thus triggering the rush of visitors. After Jammu and Kashmir became a Union Territory, the government had made the Domicile Certificate compulsory to protect the interests of its citizens, including providing government jobs and land laws. ‘During the campaign, instructions are issued to the officials of the Revenue Department to provide the Domicile Certificate to people at their doorstep,’ said the official.
