Independent Councilors demand implementation of 73rd, 74th amendments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 20: Demanding implementation of 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments in J&K, the independent Councilors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) said that it will strengthen the urban local bodies. Addressing a press conference here today, the independent councilors said that the functioning of local self-governance will improve by the implementation of 73rd and 74th constitutional amendment. Therefore, it is requested to LG of J&K UT to implement 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, they said. While highlighting several other issues, the independent councilors raised objections to the unnecessary interference of ex-ministers, MLAs and MLCs to inaugurate different developmental activities in the wards of councilors belonging to opposition. They also pointed out the shortage of Safari Karamcharis and shortage of equipment. The councilors sought acceleration of sanitization process in view of increasing cases of Covid-19 while they also demanded provision of street lights and getting rid from the slow process of repairing street lights. Councilors alleged that development activities have been slowed down due to paucity of funds. Those who addressed the press conference included councilors Ashok Singh Manhas, Sucha Singh, Amit Kumar Gupta, Shamma Akhtar, Rani Devi, Sandhya Devi and Anita Sharma.
