Taking forward political activities, NC PAC meets first time after Aug 5 | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 29: Taking forward its political activities after administration allowed leaders of political parties to meet for the first time since August 5, 2019, the National Conference (NC) Political Affairs Committee (PAC) met at party headquarters in Srinagar on Saturday. Party president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah chaired the meeting which was held for the first time after centre abrogated Article 370, 35 A and divided the erstwhile state into two Union Territories (UT) after all mainstream leaders were arrested on August 5 last year. A spokesman of the NC said this evening that PAC of the NC was held under the chairmanship of Dr Abdulla at party headquarter Nawa-i-Subah. Senior leaders, including party vice president and former CM Omar Abdullah, General secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, two party MPs—Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi and Mohammad Akbar Lone--, Mohammad Shafi Uri and Mubara Gul also participated in the meeting. Members of the PAC from Kargil also participated in the meeting while leaders from Jammu region have joined via video conference. The NC started political activities last week for the first time after Dr Farooq called meeting of four leaders, after government informed the court that there is no restriction on any NC leader and they are free to move out of their houses. Later, government allowed these, otherwise under house arrest, leader to participate in the meeting called by Dr Abdullah at his residence. This later encouraged the NC and more such meetings with other leaders were held. However, todays PAC meeting was first since August 5 last year. All the members were seen keeping physical distance besides wearing masks. Omar was seen wearing face shield. The spokesman did not divulge what transpired in the meeting, which was held a day after BJP national General Secretary Ram Madhav met party leaders here. However, a senior NC leader Mian Altaf Ahmad claimed to have refused to meet Mr Madhav when he had approached him on Friday.
