Army pays tribute to slain soldier | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 29: Army on Saturday paid a rich tribute to Late Sep Prashant Sharma, who was killed on Tuesday in South Kashmir during an encounter with militants. The Army spokesperson told early times that in a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt, , Lt Gen BS Raju, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks paid homage to the soldier. “Late Sep Prashant Sharma was in the lead element of his party when it came into contact with the militants during a specific search operation launched in Village Zadoora in District Pulwama. In the ensuing firefight, three militants were eliminated and Late Sep Prashant Sharma suffered multiple gunshot wounds on his chest. Despite being grievously injured, he continued to fight. He was subsequently evacuated to 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar where he eventually succumbed to his injuries,” the army said. “Late Sep Prashant Sharma was 23 years old and had joined the 26 Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Army on 21 Nov 2016. He was presently serving with 50 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion. He belonged to Village Khanjapur of Muzaffarnagar District in Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his parents” it said. “The mortal remains of Late Sep Prashant Sharma were taken for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army salutes his sacrifice and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family”.
