Militants lob two hand grenades, 7 civilians injured | | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Aug 31: Militants lobbed two hand grenades on security forces today in twin towns in which six civilians were injured, while security forces claimed to have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Boniyar area of north Kashmir. According to police, today at about 1:15 pm militants lobbed a grenade near Azadgunj Bridge area of Baramulla over an Army convoy which exploded on the road resulting in injuries to six civilians. All the injured were shifted to the hospital for further treatment, and the injured were identified as Lateef Ahmad Khan S/o Mohammad Yousf Khan R/o Fakirwani Baramulla, Mohammad Afrooz Ganie S/o Abdul Samad R/o Naidhal Baramulla, Iqra Nazir age about 13 years D/o Nazir Ahmad R/o Chakala Baramulla, Manzoor Ahmad Khan S/o Mohammad Yousf Khan R/o Fakir Wani Baramulla, Tariq Ahmad Chopan S/o Ghulam Ahmad R/o Kanispora Baramulla, Mohammad Auyoob S/o Mohammad Zafar R/o Bianr Baramulla, and Zahoor Ahamd Lone S/o Mohammad Akber R/o Hadipora Rafiabad Baramulla. Case FIR No. 147/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up. Area has been cordoned off; search in the area was in progress till the last reports came in. However soon after the grenade attack over an army convoy in Baramulla, suspected militants attacked the Police post at Bus stand in Sopore town, however there was no immediate report of any causality. Sources said that suspected militants attacked the police post in Sopore with a hand grenade and some bullets were also fired at the police post. “There was no loss of life reported in the incident,” they said, adding that soon after the attack, a massive manhunt was launched in the area to nab the attackers. A top police official from Sopore said the grenade was lobbed on a police post at Bus stand; however, no one was hurt in the attack. Meanwhile, security forces on Monday claimed to have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Boniyar area of this north Kashmir district. A top police official said that the joint team of 5 JAT and Police launched a massive CASO in Banali Dudran forest in Boniyar area. “During the search operation, a huge quantity of arms and ammunition including two dismantled AK 47 rifles, 2 AK Magazine, 74 AK rounds, 10 grenades, one pistol , two radio sets, Pak currency Rs 4000 and one pouch was recovered,” the official said. The police official said that a case vide FIR no 59/2020 under section 7/25 I A ACT has been registered in police station Boniyar and further investigations were taken up. |
