Forget seniors, now beginners run PDP show to attract New Delhi’s attention!

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Aug 31: With the senior leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party staying away from the party activities, the junior leaders, who have even not contested any elections in the past, have been running the show.
Ahead of senior Bharatiya Janta Pary leader Ram Madhav’s visit to Kashmir, apparently in a bid to grab his attention, the PDP held a symbolic protest demonstration in Srinagar. The protest demonstrations were led by five lesser known faces putting the Jammu and Kashmir Police to unwanted task of tackling them.
Sources said the part was desperate to show its strength in Kashmir ahead of Madhav’s visit but that no senior leader came forward whereas interestingly the visiting leader held deliberations with senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig.
Sources said barring one middle rung leader from Tral, others from PDP who attended the protests were mainly from Srinagar.
Police took them into preventive custody.
Sources said the “budding leaders” had no idea of what they were protesting about. Even the PDP Twitter handle had a mixed reaction to the reason behind the protests.
The PDP said the protests were held against “detention of political prisoners, the harassment of youth, the gag on media & gross human rights violations.”
A senior official ridiculed at the reasons behind the protests saying that barring PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti, no one from the party was under detention. “Even nobody from National Conference, Congress or Peoples Conference is under detention, so who are the political prisoners baring one?” he asked. He said the PDP was deliberately trying to show “unwanted sympathy” towards media persons in Kashmir when the journalists have no issues with the government.
“They(PDP) should be reminded of that fact that this party during its previous regime had not only filed FIRs against journalists but had also banned publication of the local newspaper in Srinagar, so what is this drama all about,” asked the official on the condition of anonimity.
Sources said given the mass resignations from the party in the last two years, the PDP wants to show its existence through such demonstrations but fails to get any senior faces. “But where are the senior leaders?”
Recently, on the first anniversary of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, only three persons from the party had held “protests” on behalf of the PDP.
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leaders were not available for comments.
