Pay compensation before demolition to Siot farmers: EX-MLC | | | Early times Report
Nowshera, August 31: Former MLC & Chief Spokesperson JKPCC Ravinder Sharma has urged the District Administration Rajouri to immediately disburse compensation to the farmers and other occupants of land, before demolishing shops, houses and other properties being done by the GREF for widening of Siot – Nowshera road, besides payment of 4 times compensation as per new act. Sharma who visited Siot to assess the situation & was apprised by the people about the forcible demolishing drive by the authorities without payment of any compensation to them. The poor people are finding it very difficult on this count, due to non-payment of compensation of their shops, houses and other properties on the roadside besides cutting of trees and destruction of crops. Sharma termed it very unfortunate and against the settled principle that compensation should be paid before taking over their land. He asked the District Development Commissioner Rajouri to disburse the payment to the affected people first before any demolition of their properties and taking over their land etc. He also regretted that rate of compensation is very low as compared to the prevalent market rate, while as per new law of compensation for land acquisition; the Govt. has to pay four times compensation of the prevalent market rate. Sharma said that residents of Siot complained that they were not given compensation for the land even under existing road so far. Now the Govt. has started demolishing of their houses and shops besides other property included trees and crops for the widening of the road without any compensation to them |
