SRINAGAR, Sep 2: Officials at Tehsil Office Ajas in north Kashmir's Bandipora district are alleged to have unilaterally raised the revenue extract fee from Rs 20, prescribed by the government for cases of income certificates to Rs 70, which has left the locals aghast as hundreds of aspirants have been overcharged by the office. Locals of the area alleged that officers at Tehsil Office Ajas, who are at the helm are overlooking this misappropriation and are enjoying it without bothering to put checks and balances in place. The locals alleged that officials are taking advantage of the huge rush of scholarship aspirants. “The revenue officials of the revenue department at Tehsil Office Ajas charging them rupees 70 per head instead of rupees 20, without issuing them any receipts”, said Shakeel Bhat, a local. Another local, Abdul Aziz said that the lower rung staff of the Tehsil is allegedly doing this mischievous act in connivance with their higher-ups and the overcharged money is being consumed for enjoying the feasts. Meanwhile, a senior official at the Tehsil office Ajas said that he will look into the matter and will take necessary action against the accused, if the allegation against them is found true. Meanwhile, Locals have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to personally probe the matter and take action against the accused. “We want strict punishment for culprits as we urge Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Owais Ahmad to look into the matter and solve the matter as soon as possible”, said another local. |
