EARLY TIMES REPORT
KUPWARA, Sept 2: If only false promises would not have been made by the previous governments, some far flung villages like Manigah and its adjacent areas were not without electricity and roads in the 21st century when other countries set their foot on the moon. According to local residents of Manigah that, “In 2016, the foundation stone for a project at the cost of Rs 6,55.56 lakh was laid down by the then MLA and minister for Rural Development Department and Law and Justice, Advocate Abdul Haq Khan.” They said that five culverts and an up gradation of 4-9 Kms of road were supposed to get completed for which earthwork was also started but that was left incomplete by the department concerned in 2016. The then minister and concerned authorities had promised that the road will be constructed for which a team of engineers had also visited there, but that was only for photo shoot, whereas the area is still reeling in the darkness and people are living like as of in stones age, Aijaz Ahmad resident of Biyhama told Early Times. He said that the village has a huge population of around one thousand souls in Shartpora Manigah-C and some other adjacent areas including Chatwan, Behak Sabaya and Beerban that suffer a lot due to step motherly treatment from the department concerned. Another local resident, Bashir Ahmad said that the roads and culverts were supposed to be constructed under the scheme of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) by the Roads and Building (R&B) Department, but nothing has been done till date. In the 21st century there is no electricity supply in Chatwan, Sabaya and Behak Sabya villages, due to which the area is reeling under darkness due to the callous attitude of the departments concerned, a local said. However sources said, the High Transmission (HT) lines were fixed to some meters only and that was also left incomplete, but the Low Transmission (LT) lines were never laid in these two villages. It seems like that they are not part of this Union Territory, otherwise this step motherly treatment would not have been given to them, sources observed. Our school children, old aged people and patients have always suffered due to want of good roads, there are hundreds of problems that we are facing on a daily basis, locals informed. Locals alleged that only fake bills have been drawn by the concerned departments for no work, otherwise we would not have suffered a lot in this age of modern science and technology. “We would like to ask the Prime Minister of India and Lt Governor of J&K UT, Manoj Sinha, why we have been ignored, no facility has been provided to us by the concerned departments of R&B, RDD and PDD so far, '' said locals. |
