SKUAST-J celebrates nutrition month | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 13: A morning walk was organized to celebrate "Poshan Maah" in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Chatha. All the residents of Chatha campus and scientist from different locations of city participated in it. The walk started from the quarters with banner depicting theme of the nutritional week 2020 "Eat Right, Bite by Bite" and ended at open canteen near Faculty of Agriculture. The Vice Chancellor Dr. J P Sharma in his address to participants gave the importance of nutrition and threw light on "Yatha Annam tatha Mannam". He said that our mental and intellectual development depends upon the kind of food we consume. He stated that studies have shown that iron deficient anaemia affects 50-60% Indian population and 80-90% population of all age groups suffer with Vitamin-D deficiency, which is simply alarming. At least 17% of world population have experienced insecurity at moderate level which means they do not have regular access to nutritious and sufficient food. In the 2019, Global Hunger Index, India ranks 102nd out of 117 qualifying countries with a score of 30.3 which is really a serious situation and efforts should be made to reduce the same. Spices in food of Indian population helps in digestion, has anti inflammatory and antibacterial properties, improves circulation, promotes dental health, enhances immunity and promotes heart health. As Farm University we have immense role in providing access to affordable food to entire population of the country and making it a self reliant, i.e. step toward Atamnirbhar Bharat. The Programme ended with medical camp organized by Dr Anil Gupta and Dr S Gupta, Health Centre SKUAST-J Chatha wherein participants were examined for various health parameters like glucose level, Blood pressure, etc, and in last Dr Rajesh Katoch extended vote of thanks to all the participants. |
