More trouble for common man as Brick Kiln Assn stops sale of bricks in South Kashmir | | | SAAHIL SUHAIL EARLY TIMES REPORT
ANANTNAG, Sept 16: The Brick Kilns operating in various areas of South Kashmir have stopped the sale of bricks for one week to protest the alleged ‘‘highhandedness’ and fixing of rates for bricks without taking them onboard. They threatened to continue the stir if their demand wasn’t met. “We have decided to stop the sale of bricks for one week as the district administration hasn’t taken us into confidence when they decided and fixed the rates of bricks,” Mohd Yousuf Sheikh, President South Kashmir Brick Kiln Owners Association told Early Times. Sheikh said that the association also decided to approach Jammu and Kashmir High Court against the injustice being done with brick manufacturing business unit holders. “In the beginning of this year the administration in Jammu has fixed Rupees 22,400 for three thousand bricks as rates but here in Kashmir the authorities are forcing us to sell the quantity at Rs 21000 despite the fact that we get raw material from Delhi or Jammu and pay more transpiration charges then those unit holders functioning in Jammu,” he said. Unit holders suggested that rates fixed in Jammu for bricks should be made applicably in Kashmir as well and the amount unit holders spend on transporting the raw material from Jammu to Kashmir should be added. “Rates fixed by Jammu administration for bricks are also acceptable to us. Our only demand is that the transportation charges are added and rates be revised again,” they said The rates fixed by the Deputy Commissioners in Kashmir division will encourage corruption, nepotism, illegal profiteering and illegal hoarding, they said. “The analysis done by the DIC General Manager in Anantnag isn’t based on facts. This year a brick kiln owner can’t manufacture more than 10 lakhs of bricks while as the officer is expecting that every unit holder will manufacture 30 lakh bricks,” said Mohd Yousf Sheikh , adding every brick kiln owners requires more than 200 Kanals of land, however officer in his analytical report has stated that unit holders requires just 60 kanals of land. He said that officers at the helm of affairs should stop misusing their positions and revise the decision taken with regard to fixing of rates for bricks. However, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag K K Sidha told Early Times that he will not allow brick kiln owners to indulge in overcharging or illegal profiteering Pertinent to mention here that the authorities on Tuesday sealed three ‘unlicensed’ brick kilns in Lalan Ganoor areas of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. “A joint squad comprising Revenue, FCS&CA enforcement, Sales tax and Police officials visited 13 brick kilns to monitor implementation of brick kiln rates fixed by district administration recently. The squad was led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Ghulam Hassan Sheikh,” Deputy Commissioner had said Brick kilns sealed by the authorities include 113 owned by Riyaz Ahmad Dar s/o Mohd Sultan Dar R/o Pampore, 1BK owned by Fayaz Ahmad Allie r/o Kakapora Pulwama and 311 owned by Raies Ahmad Dar s/o Nazir Ahmad Dar r/o Pampore. A fine of Rs 6 lakh was also imposed on the trio for running units illegally. |
