UDHAMPUR, Oct 6: Excise Department conducted a special checking drive in Udhampur-Reasi Range by laying nakas on National Highway Udhampur.
The drive was carried out on the directions of Excise Commissioner, J&K UT, Rajesh Kumar Shavan and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Amarjeet Singh.
Excise team of Udhampur-Reasi Range under the supervision of ETO, Rupali Vaid and led by Inspector Aquib Rashid along with Sub Inspector Sikander Shah, Sub Inspector Abdul Latief, Sub Inspector Ratan Slathia, Guard Sham Lal and Guard Hitesh Sharma laid nakas at different locations on National Highway Udhampur for the checking of vehicles. Excise Inspector Aquib Rashid said that these nakas were laid with an objective to check smuggling of illicit and illegal liquor and drugs.
During the course of drive, around 96 vehicles were checked but nothing objectionable under Excise Act 1958 and NDPS Act 1985 was found.
According to Excise Officials these activities will continue till the menace if illegal/illicit liquor and drugs is completely rooted out.
